From his studies and his theory of „self-efficacy“ he drew the conclusion that a successful athletic performance boosts self-confidence to the athletes and thus leads to a further improvement in the current challenge or at the next. We then talk about
„The player has a run, he is full of confidence!“ In general, we feel that seems to work. Simcha Avugos, Miki Bar–Eli et al have tried to comprehend this in studies out of sport and found no relationship between success, self-efficacy and performance !! Here we are deceived apparently by our „feeling“, we fall into the „intuition pit“. Nobel prize winner Daniel Kahneman has shown this in the book „Thinking fast and slow“. The following article from „gehirn.info“ is a short and understandable summary.
