Children are not young adults. They are different physically, physiologically, emotionally, and socially. Therefore, youth sports should fit the special needs of children. In order to accomplish this, for only the fifth time in the history of tennis, the rules of the sport have changed and tennis is no longer asking children to play an adult-model game. Kids 10 and under will now compete on courts and with equipment scaled to size to suit their needs and abilities. The change could not have come fast enough, nor is it all that is needed.
